In Basle, even animals have something to say to you

The Basel Zoo may be located in the middle of the city, but it is far removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Just a 15-minute walk from the Steinenschanze, its verdant landscape dominated by old trees offers winding paths that lead you to relaxation and comfort.

Once your curiosity is aroused, you can quench it in a relaxing manner with encounters that appeal to all senses. You can feel, smell, hear and see animals. Discovery is what it’s all about. The designed enclosures and animal communities do not reveal all their secrets at the first glance. The plant windows open and close, first showing and then blocking the view. This provides for an intimate experience: A band of vocal macaque monkeys raucously discuss their hierarchy, a pensive chimpanzee breastfeeds her baby, small sable antelope run a race, while perched upon towered branch nests, flamingos feed on their single offspring, and leapfrogging dwarf goats show human children how to behave, while dozing lions blinking lazily in the sun.

The BASEL ZOO is open every day, including Sundays and holidays.
